What do we have for breakfast in France?

Café au lait

French people normally have breakfast at 8.00 o’clock in the morning.

Breakfast in France is usually light and coffee is the most important beverage*. Adults drink a cup of coffee which is diluted with hot milk (this mixture is called “café au lait”). French people rarely consume tea in their breakfast time.

With the coffee, French people can eat a ham sandwich, bread (which is called “baguette”) with cheese, or eggs in omelette.

Children do not drink coffee, they drink hot chocolate. Pupils like to soak* their slices* of bread into their bowl of hot chocolate. Others prefer to have cereal with milk.

Most people think that French people always eat croissants, brioches or pan au chocolat.

But it is not true that French people eat this kind of food every day because, it is not very healthy* (only at the weekend). Also at weekends, French people normally buy fresh “baguette” (before taking the breakfast) which is cut into slices and eaten with butter, chocolate or jam.
